Of course these cars were sold in Malaysia and perhaps you can still some of them running today like there is no tomorrow..
This is my tribute to those days...
These cars are particularly from the 70's right up to the late 80's (a tribute to Uncle Lee :) )
These cars were there when I was born and they will be forever etched in my memory.
No, I never owned them myself except some Protons but that were later Protons.
My father and my uncles may have owned some of them.
Some of you who might still remember them, I am sure many have fond memories with them.
Cars do bring us back memories especially when we were young.
Not to mention that they were affordable too in those days.

That is the VW Beetle 1970 model...
This car is a legend and almost everybody we know had one or still has one!!
I may have missed other cars but due to the time constraints I apologize for not being able to feature them.
To all these cars, may I say thank you...for the memories...

You certainly brought back memories to me re all those beautiful cars.
But before these cars came on the scene, there were lots of huge American cars in KL then...my father had a Chevy Impala...take a look at my archive, "Among my many memories", d/d 12/20/07.
I learned driving in a Ford Customline. Took my driving test in an America car.
The Ford Escort 1600 GT and the Mini Cooper S ruled the roads those days, until Datsun came out with the Datsun SSS.
Of course there was the Alfa Romeos too. BMW's and Fiats too were around...but it was the Alfas that gave the Datsun SSS a good run.
And where bikes were concerned, before Hondas, Yamahas arrived, there was the Ducatis (I owned 2), Gileras, Moto Guzzis, MV Augustas, Benneli's, Aparilas, Nortons (I had one), BSA Gold Stars, Triumph Bonnievilles....
I remember there was a group of young Malays mostly on their Triumph Bonnies, beautiful bikes, and they, about ten to fifteen of them would be seen on Sundays at the KL Lake gardens with their girlfriends.
Me and my friends, about 12 of us on our Nortons, Gileras, MV Augustas passing by, and me carrying a sexy, voluptuous Malay girl with pony tail, tight blue jeans, red t-shirt on my Norton....
but it was friendly rivalry with them and would wave or tease them when we passed by.
Back in the 60's there were three big motorcycle groups, not gangs, ha ha....and on and off we would race each other on the new Federal Highway or to Klang and back.
My Norton SS Twin was secretly modified with specially ordered from UK, Norton Manx racing parts and would surprise the group with their very fast Truimph Bonnies, ha ha.
"Hey Lee, what the hell you got in your engine..."? Ha ha.
One time, we even raced up to Cameron Highlands, right up to Brinchang electric station, the top.
Quite a few of us fell near the top because of the very slippery road. One fellow on his Truimph Bonnie missed a corner, went up the muddy slope and fell slidding down covered in mud.
Sure had a good laugh then.
I too missed a corner and fell into the wet bushes, my Norton about 25 feet in the jungle, without me, ha ha.
Yes, those were the good old days...no drugs, no aids, cops in very old, slow Bedford vans, no speed limits....and friendly rivalry with everyone, abit of friendly jealousy at my beautiful Malay girlfriends too, ha ha.

yes actually this topic was inspired from some of your stories.
Even though I was very young then, but as soon as I knew how to read at the age of 6, I adore all my dad's Auto International magazine.
Wish I was born earlier hahahaha...
Yes, I remember many of these cars. I've been in many of those models that you had posted photos. Sure brings back memories.
Looks like we share a similar interest. I'm a collector of metal models of these nostalgic automobiles.
